Thematic Support

In order to influence policies and practices around women’s rights, the project supports WROs to use evidence-based knowledge. This is done through the issue-based, responsive funding under the project. The short-term, responsive funding is open to all qualifying WROs of the country, including those being supported under the core funding, as well as individual activists. An estimated 20 grants in total will be offered during the second through fifth years of the project. Each grant supports issue-based, responsive projects or actions having a duration of up to 1 year.

The calls for proposals are announced twice a year and are selected by the Grants Committee established under the project. The thematic focus of the calls is determined by the project’s Technical Advisory Committee based on continuous contextual analyses of the women’s rights situation in the country and the priorities of the WROs over the course of the project. Key thematic areas include but are not limited to:

  • Access to justice, including gaps in the implementation of legislation
  • Challenging gender discrimination
  • Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG)
  • Women’s economic empowerment
  • Women’s leadership/participation
